The LiFE MAT and Partners PGCE, delivered by the University of Leicester, is divided into two halves, Phase A and Phase B, each with clearly delineated priorities to guide you towards a successful completion. The University programme covers all areas of the National Curriculum for each subject, addresses national testing and extra curricular learning opportunities. Career changers or those wanting to teach a subject that is not wholly covered by their degree, may, if eligible, be able to take a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course before starting their PGCE year.
Successful completion of the course leads to either:
- PGCE and 90 credits at Masters Level awarded by the University and Qualified teacher Status (QTS) awarded by NCTL or
- PGCE and QTS
- Follow the course satisfactorily by attendance, participation and completion of set work
- Reach pass standard both in written assignments and in practical teaching – there are three subject assignments in total
- Demonstrate they have met all the three of the Assessment Areas and Teacher Standards as laid down by NCTL
LiFE MAT and Partners School Direct trainees have always been successful in securing teaching posts, with many of them gaining employment in partner schools. A good number of our former trainees now have posts of responsibility in schools and work as subject leaders, senior managers and headteachers.
